Costa Rican Medium Roast Coffee
Story of the Roast
A micro-farmed, slightly-sweet coffee dried in the sun of Central America, this medium roast is a smooth drink with notes of sweet apple, raisin, and honey! In our opinion, this is the best coffee from Costa Rica on the market right now - freshly roasted, pure arabica coffee and delivered directly to your door.
This Central American bean is our most popular coffee and also one of our most versatile. It makes a beautiful pour-over as the gentle aromas will fill up your kitchen perfectly in the morning. It's also an excellent coffee for a standard automatic drip coffee maker - not too delicate - and will hold up nicely as your every morning coffee.
Costa Rican Coffee
Costa Rica is a coffee mecha. It has 8 coffee regions - Tarrazu, Orosi, Valle Central, Guanacaste, Brunca, Turrialba, Tres Rios, Valle Occidental. These regions are hugely variable in their weather as Costa Rica has a near-infinite number of microclimates - some even combined with volcanic soil.
In 1989, Robusta coffee was outlawed in Costa Rica - only 100% Arabica coffee could be grown; amazing coffee became the law. While those laws (and the market for Robusta coffee) have changed over the years, Costa Rica remains a powerhouse for gourmet coffee.
Our single-origin Costa Rican coffee comes from the Valle Occidental region which gives it the subtle hints of fruit - sweet apples, raisins and honey in this case. The diversity of microclimates in Costa Rica is what causes the large number of growing regions relative to its size.R&B’s Perspective
One of the things that I remember most about my visit to Costa Rica is the sheer diversity of ecology. From the coasts to the mountains - or some places the mountains and the coasts share space.
I witnessed the beautiful, rough waves of the Pacific Ocean contrasting the massive volcanoes, and rainforest painted mountains. All of these contribute to the subtleties of coffees produced in different parts of the country.
The country is blessed with significant rainfall to soak the volcanic soil but every day seems to have both sun and rain.
Relax and Brew
Like all of our current stock, this coffee is from our private label - roasted to perfection in California. We have full bean or ground varieties available. Our recommended brewing techniques for this roast are pour-over or automatic drip. This roast will also make a nice cold brew.
As with all of our coffees, full bean orders are roasted and shipped the same day. Ground beans are roasted and ground the day before shipping, then packaged and shipped the following day.
Even better, it ships regularly on subscription with free shipping!
